City of Brighton

 
General Information: The City was founded in 1887 and currently serves a population of approximately 40,000 residents living across approximately 27 square miles.
 
District Oversight:

The nine-member city council meets every Tuesday evening (except the 5th Tuesday of each month and holidays) to review and approve City operations and finances.
 

Property Tax Usage: Property taxes collected by the City are used to fund the various departments of and services provided by the City including but not limited to (1) public safety (i.e. police department, animal control, code enforcement), (2) general City administration (including municipal court), (3) public works (including street cleaning, snow plowing, and maintenance of City-owned roads and bridges), (4) maintenance of parks and recreation facilities, (5) community development (including building inspections, planning, zoning and engineering) and (6) storm drainage planning and maintenance. Approximately 6% of the City’s operations are funded through property taxes.
